Pros: lightweight vs. a regular wheelchair, solid construction
Cons: large size, uncomfortable back, static electric shocks from handles when in use, maneuverability
Model Number: MDS808200TR
"I purchased this for my 78 yr old Mother who has COPD and finding it increasingly difficult to walk any great length. We already have a wheelchair but thought this would allow her at least some walking exercise until tired then ride when she couldn't walk any further. With the wheelchair she essentially had to ride all the time which wasn't good for her overall body conditioning.
In theory the Translator is a good idea; however, in form it is neither good as a wheelchair or as a walker.
As a wheelchair the backrest is far too uncomfortable--it doesn't provide any back support and the little support it does provide sticks in a line across the mid back area. The other thing is that as her helper I was getting little static electric jolts from the handles when I was pushing her around. The unit was also harder to push and turn than a regular wheelchair.
As a rollator, it also falls short. The seat is big which you would think is a good thing:however, it makes the unit too wide and deep. The Translator is not good for getting around the house or turning in a smaller room such as a kitchen. The size also makes it heavier (18 lbs vs. 12 lbs) for a normal/smaller rollator.
This is essentialy a transport chair with a flipping backrest. I figure we can use her old wheelchair in just about the same fashion. Have her push the empty wheelchair until tired then she can ride as a passenger.
One other short point: the unit didn't come with accurate or complete assembly instructions. I had to figure out how to attach the handles and secure the backrest by viewing the online photos and video of the product visible here on Costco.com.
About the only plus is that the unit is lighter than a full size wheelchair (18 lbs. vs. 36 lbs) so it was easier to get in and out of the back of my SUV. It is also well constructed once you figure out how to assemble."

It changed my life!
Pros: 2 storage bags
Cons: absolutely none
Model Number: 478751
"This is an amazing product. I can now go to a mall or store that does not have a motorized shopping cart. I can walked to the area I wish to shop and then sit down to check out whatever I am there to buy or just rest. Waiting in a checkout line now is easy. You can even roll about a little. People are very kind and helpful when they see you in your chair.
The Translator is quite lightweight and easy to get in and out of my car. I lift the front wheels in behind the drivers seat and then just push the rest over and voila! it is stored. I do have a mediium sized car... a smaller care might not be as easy, but probably."

Best part of vacation!
"I have MS and can't walk long distances but still want to move when I can. We bought this to try out on vacation knowing the hassles of airport wheelchairs and walking necessary. This product works wonderfully both as rollator and wheelchair. It is very light weight and easy to collapse. It held our carry on bags down to the plane if I was up to walking or held me and the bags when pushing was necessary. The airline just stows it on board with strollers, etc. and brought it right out for use when we landed! The one small problem is not being able to go over thresholds/curbs of more than 2-3 inches smoothly but for most navigating it worked great! Even did o.k. on cobblestones! It will be a great help to keep me mobile!"
