Pros: highly adjustable, prosumer level, high image quality, water/dust-resistant, high focus speed, high multi-exposure speed, high-end electronics
Cons: videos in mono, 'only' 16 megapixels, one can hear/feel the lens motors
Model Number: Pentax K-50 with lens kit
"I am a prosumer level amateur and researched this for a long time. I also don't like to pay for 'name stickers', so I did my homework. Pentax has been in high-quality photography since forever, but they never spent much on ads... Their equipment always has been extremely well thought through and well built. The K50 is great for beginners and prosumer photographers alike. One can turn the camera on and fly on autopilot or adjust pretty much every parameter - including features only accessible on much higher-end models in the $1.5k range. To me, this makes the K50 ideal for someone who might have ambitions in becoming a more serious photographer without ending up frustrated or overwhelmed on the way.
Most importantly, Pentax again put emphasis on aspects essential for good photography: camera body and lenses are very solidly built (no plasticy feeling at all) and weather/dust-proof, the auto-focus is extremely fast and accurate, image series captures are highest-speed in class (actually even faster than their specs of 6/second - I got close to 9), and the image quality and color accuracy are perfect. All pro reviews put them in the top range in these aspects in the sub-$1000 DSLR class, which sold me.
And I could not be happier. Also, the additional camera bag is of high quality. The Kingston (class 4) 16 GB memory card works well with the camera, too. All in all, this package is really a great deal.
But as usual, there are 'disadvantages', which in my opinion are related to the main purpose of this DSLR camera = great quality photography. But here we go:
1) The HD video quality is good, but the sound is in mono. No external microphone can be attached. Seriously, my $250 HD camcorder beats any $1500 DSLR camera in video features, so I couldn't care less. I am glad that Pentax spent their energy and production costs on photography-related aspects instead. A sub-$2k DSLR is a surrogate HD camcorder (and vice versa) at the current technological levels.
2) The resolution is 'only' 16 Megapixels instead of 24. Pentax uses a 16MP Sony chip that was used in higher-end DSLR cameras since a good while. Also, the difference between 16 and 24MP is only really relevant for professional high resolution art/poster printing. So, I am perfectly happy with a proven high-end chip instead.
3) Audible focus sounds: the lens drives/motors are strong and one will hear and feel them. I actually had the chance to try out pro camera systems, and they sound/feel the same. Obviously, these beefy motors are responsible for the fast focus speeds of the K50. I frankly find this appealing, and it has not been annoying to me or my surroundings."

What to say?
Pros: grip. fits in my big hands, easy to use.
Model Number: Pentax K-50
"Other than the fairy tale color from the website, green is olive not the shiny green. Other than that I'm teaching myself mysteries of this camera. There is so much it can do, I love it. Taken some great photos and can't wait to learn some more functions."

Pros: options and features not on more expensive brands, iso vs f-stop settings and additional choices, choice of battery types interchangable on site, added viewfinder vs digital screen, additional 50 ~ 200 lense for price, colour options if your inclined
Cons: shutter focus noise although not an issue to me
Model Number: Pentax K50
"Have found the camera a true joy to use. Take the time to learn the menus so you can optimize your results. Also be aware there are options available here not available on higher priced brand name competitors products. This makes this quality camera a true competitor in the field of DSLR's. Pentax has been out there for a long time and is a reputable name with product history to back it's offerings. If you do the research of reviews online I think you to will purchase and be extremely happy with the camera like I am."
Cons: no external mic jack or stereo+wind proof mic!, no official training videos / content available
Model Number: K-50
"I am a big fan of Canon, and have owned several of them in the past 10 years[in fact never a Pentax, until this one]. Now I can tell you that Pentax K 50, is a good decision.
Weather proof , Great Image quality, easy to hold, AA battery backup & LOTS of features that costs at least 1.5k in canon or Nikon. I simply love this camera. its not just the cost, The quality is amazing. Compared this to 60D and Nikon 5200 for a quite a while[almost a year] and decided to go with Pentax finally. I had so much confusion even after owning this brand, because none of my friends owned this or nor any guides/training online readily available. So was contemplating to go back to canon 60D, until I met a professional photographer's gallery in Galveston,TX.She was using K-r & K-5 and highly recommended a Pentax ,She also guided me thro some cool techniques with this camera!!! I really love this camera and highly recommend it.
*** The training website that Pentax had before was brought down by Ricoh now [bad decision], they are recommending to checkout videos on their youtube channel [pentaxforums and pentaxian1]. I would have preferred a DVD or booklet like the big two."
