Great-Particularly for the price
Pros: good picture-good price
Cons: none so far
Model Number: Vizio 55" M series 240hz
"This tv replaced a four year old Mitsubishi top of the line Diamond 52" lcd that met an early end. I had anticipated longer life from that tv. Decided I would not spend the extra money for a "top echelon" brand a second time. So I researched as much as possible and chose this 55" Vizio 240hz M series from Costco. Purchased in store and have had in place for about 10 days. It was really easy to set up and I have had no problems with the remote. But I did configure the remote for WhiFi. I can be all the way across the room and point the remote anywhere and the tv will receive the remote signal. The speakers just like all flat screen tv speakers are anemic at best. Easily corrected by adding a speaker bar, surround system or my personal choice, a speaker base. Check out the Klipsch sb120 for a great option. Wish Costco carried the Klipsch line. The picture itself is really good in my opinion. But I am not a total snob nor are my eyes what they used to be. I know I like what I am seeing from Netflix/Amazon streaming as well as comcast cable. I do not use the smart feature as I have a Roku3 that I like very much. 3d I really do not care about so have not used and cannot comment. For an overall good picture at a reasonable price I would recommend having a look at this one. I did purchase the extended warranty from Costco for roughly $60.00. Some say it is not worth the money due to a tiny percentage of failure rate. But I lost a super expensive tv in only four years. Lesson learned. Also, I want to thank SNDMNTBOY for his review. It prompted me to add my review. I re calibrated to your settings from my tinkerings and now I am really happy with the picture. Your settings pushed my rating of the tv from four to five stars. However, when you have a moment, I would like to try your other settings as well. Thanks again."
"In the plus column: 1. Strong tuner. 2. Color fidelity. 3. Wide horizontal angle of view. 4. Analog (RCA) audio output jacks. 5. Deep and detailed picture set-up options. 6. No issues with A/V sync watching Netflix.
In the minus column: 1. Not enough scaling options for the Component input. 480i DVDs are displayed with black borders on all four sides; none of the scaling settings provide an adequate, undistorted enlarged fit to 16:9. 2. Poor TV speakers/audio. 3. Vignetting on all borders and corners. 4. On black screen/background there is significant white bleed-through over half the screen. 5. No true black; just deep blue. 6. Limited vertical angle of view, especially above mid-screen. 7. Remote control is a tad awkward to hold and the buttons are almost flush with the surface making operation a hit-n-miss exercise."
Least expensive for comparable specs compared with
Cons: poor remote stand does not rotate.
Model Number: VIZIO M551D-A2 55" CLASS (54.6" DIAG) 1080P 3D LED LCD
"I chose this over samsung because I needed something less expensive with all of the features. Compared with a Samsung with all features :1080p, 3D, 55", thin panel, Smart TV...this is cheaper by about $500. I just needed this for exercising P90X in the basement. It works well compared to the 60" Samsung Smart TV which I also have, but it is thicker by about 1" and the stand does not rotate, which annoys me because if I had to setup cables, I had to move the whole TV. The biggest gripe is the remote. Vizio tried to be sleek and made the remote with very flat buttons and tiny labels, which often times I had to really search for the right button to press. The Samsung's remote are larger, clear and easier to use. The remote has a lag time, not as intuitive or quick as Samsung's. But I guess for $500 less I will bear with it."
